SOUTHPORT, England –– The future of Swedish golf is in good hands. Prospects don’t look too bad for college golf, too.
That much was obvious from the final of the British Boys Championship at Royal Birkdale.
Marcus Svensson defeated South Africa’s Keegan de Lange, 4 and 3, in the scheduled 36-hole final to become the second consecutive Swedish winner following Oskar Bergqvist at Prestwick last year.
“I’m so relieved right now,” Svensson said. “I’ve never been this happy in my life.”
The 17-year-old Svensson, 4 up after the morning 18 holes, wasn’t under too much pressure in the afternoon session.
