The substitution rule is expanding in men’s college golf.
The NCAA Division I Competition Oversight Committee approved a change last week that allows a coach to sub out a player for any reason during postseason play, which covers NCAA regionals and the NCAA Championship.
Last year was the first in which subs were allowed during the match-play portion. Though seven of the eight coaches brought a sixth man to the play-five format, none subbed out a player during the competition.
The sub rule is not yet allowed in women's college golf.
Of the nearly 200 men's coaches who responded to a recent survey, 57 percent voted to allow substitutions in all rounds of the postseason, including stroke play.
