Stenson's back 'locks up,' impacts shots down the stretch

RIO DE JANEIRO – Henrik Stenson began this year on the disabled list following off-season surgery and withdrew from the U.S. Open with neck and knee issues, so when his physical trainer arrived on the 13th tee on Sunday at the Olympic Golf Course it was a cause for concern.

Stenson, who was tied with Justin Rose for the lead of the Olympic men’s golf competition at the time, said his back “locked up” on him when he hit his tee shot at the 13th hole.

His trainer, Cornel Driessen, was called to the tee to help loosen Stenson’s back and the Swede underwent about five minutes of therapy before continuing his round.
