Stegmaier retains Shriners Open lead; Hoffmann one behind

Scores

Brett Stegmaier has a solo 54-hole lead in just his second event as a PGA Tour member.

That scenario seemed impossible for a man once quite professional golf about a half-decade ago – not to mention that he barely qualified for this year's Web.com Tour Finals where he would earn his PGA Tour card – but Stegmaier will enter the final round of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open with a one-shot lead.

The 32-year-old's cushion came about by a late Saturday surge. Stegmaier played his first 12 holes of the third round at TPC Summerlin in 1 under.
