The stalwarts of the Pac-12 Conference got off to a strong start Thursday at the Amer Ari Invitational, as Stanford and USC shot out to a share of the first-round lead.
Both teams posted a 10-under 278 on Thursday at the Waikoloa Kings' Course in Waikoloa Village, Hawaii. That put the duo one ahead of Golfweek's No. 30 UCLA and four clear of No. 33 Oregon and No. 12 Oklahoma State.
For the Cardinal, No. 5 in Golfweek's rankings, its dependable top two carried the team into the lead, but its No. 1 scorer on Day One was not the part of the duo you might have guessed.
