Charles Howell III played bogey-free and picked up two important birdies in a four-under-par 67 that gave him a share of the lead with Keegan Bradley and Ken Duke in the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Fla. Jordan Spieth, the Masters champion, made five bogeys in his opening seven holes and never recovered for a 76. Spieth needs a low round on Friday to advance.
