Jordan Spieth, the No. 1 player in the world, carded a second-round nine-under-par 64 to vault into a four-stroke lead at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii, on Friday.
Spieth had a 35-foot chip-in for eagle at the par-5 ninth and added seven birdies at the Kapalua Plantation course on Maui.
His total of 130, 16 under par, is four strokes better than the scores of Patrick Reed (69), Kevin Kisner (65) and Fabian Gomez (66). Spieth, 22, is on track to break the tournament record of 31 under par, set by Ernie Els in 2003.
