Spieth takes control of game, but not bar tab, at BMW Championship

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Jason Day’s open-round 61 is the talk of the BMW Championship, but Jordan Spieth’s 65 deserves some attention, too.

Coming off back-to-back missed cuts and having lost the World No. 1 ranking, Spieth fielded questions earlier this week wondering if he was suffering from a post-major letdown. Spieth rolled his eyes and then quieted such talk – for now – with an inward 6-under 29 at Conway Farms.

Spieth completed his round this morning when play resumed by punching a lob wedge for a kick-in birdie.

“After hitting the fairway we knew we had 86 yards with the same exact wind that's on the driving range, so I just went and hit the shot probably 20, 30 times before going out,” he said.
