Jordan Spieth’s tie for seventh at the WGC-HSBC Champions was enough to send him back to No. 1 in the world ranking.
Spieth, who has two more events this year (Australian Open and Hero World Challenge), holds a narrow lead over Jason Day, who was idle last week. Rory McIlroy is No. 3 in the world, and the rest of the top 10 remained unchanged.
“Everyone is pushing each other a little bit,” Spieth told reporters in Shanghai, “and when that No. 1 ranking slips away, it leaves some unrest in you and you really want to get back at it.
