INCHEON, South Korea – Asked why he decided to send world No. 1 Jordan Spieth out with Dustin Johnson on Day 1 at the Presidents Cup, U.S. captain Jay Haas had a ready answer.
“What Jordan wants, Jordan gets right now,” Haas smiled.
Haas polled all of his players for potential pairings and Spieth was quick to request Johnson, who he beat by a stroke at this year’s U.S. Open.
Spieth paired with Patrick Reed in last year’s Ryder Cup, going 2-0 but that was in fourball play, and was only paired with Steve Stricker, one of Haas’ assistants for this year’s matches, at his only other start in the Presidents Cup in 2013.
