PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — World No. 1 Jordan Spieth concluded his first round at the Northern Trust Open at roughly the same moment that World No. 226 Camilo Villegas was putting the finishing touches on his day at the ninth hole. Spieth, who just missed a playoff here last year, already notched a win this season in Hawaii. Villegas limped in having missed his last four cuts. Both missed short putts. The only difference being that Villegas made his lone bogey of the day to shoot 8-under 63 and open a three-stroke lead while Spieth’s double dropped him to 8-over 79, a score better than just one player in the 144-man field.
