The Southern Illinois-Edwardsville women's golf program has learned 2015-16 will be its final season.
On Monday, the Southern Illinoisan revealed that the school will be cutting women's golf (along with men's tennis) at the end of the 2015-16 school year. While the full details behind the decision haven't been released, a main reason behind the cuts appears to be the state of Illinois' ongoing budget impasse.
A seven-month financial analysis conducted by the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee (ICAC) had been undertaken because of the budget issue. ICAC needed to determine how to slice off $200,000 from Southern Illinois-Edwardsville's athletics budget.
