SMU picked up its first victory of the season Tuesday at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate, and it couldn't have come at a better time.
The Mustangs are still recovering from the news that they won't be able to compete in the postseason after the NCAA penalized the school last week for multiple recruiting violations. SMU, playing without 2015 NCAA individual champion Bryson DeChambeau, kept its focus, finishing the 54-hole event at Erin Hills Golf Course at 13-under 851, two shots better than runner-up Oklahoma State.
Austin Smotherman led the way for the Mustangs, tying for second at 8 under.
