Singh's errant shot sends Dawson's caddie to hospital

TROON, Scotland – Marco Dawson will hit his first-ever shot in The Open on Thursday at Royal Troon. As winner of the Senior Open Championship last summer at Sunningdale, the 52-year-old earned an exemption into the championship for the first time.

Even though the first round is two days away this week is already unforgettable. According to Golf Digest, Dawson’s caddie, William Ciplinski, was hit in the head by an errant tee shot struck by Vijay Singh.

The report says that Dawson and playing partner Padraig Harrington were finishing up on the eighth hole, the famed Postage Stamp, when Ciplinski was beaned by a ball that came from Singh’s drive off the seventh tee.
