A judge in Cleveland sentenced a son and former daughter-in-law of the late Charlie Sifford to 2½ years in prison for stealing from the estate of the pioneering African-American golfer.
According to Cleveland.com, Craig Sifford and his ex-wife, Sandra, will be eligible for release sooner. Last month they pleaded guilty to stealing $315,000. Their attorney had asked that they be sentenced to probation instead of prison, but Cuyahoga Common Pleas Judge Peter J. Corrigan refused.
When Charlie Sifford died in February 2015 at age 92, authorities were investigating a complaint that Craig Sifford was abusing the power of attorney for his father.
