HONOLULU — Good thing he’s at a venue, Waialae Country Club, where he’s been 15 previous times. Otherwise, Brian Gay might be wandering around like a first-day foreign-exchange student.
But while he knows where the range is, and the course and the locker room, Gay, 44, feels like he’s on a mystery ride, arriving at his first competitive tournament since August 2014.
“Realistically, I know I’m not going to be totally ready, but if I’m going to do, it’s nice that I’m going to be at a couple of places where I’ve done well,” Gay said of this lengthy layoff thanks to a pair of surgeries.
