Short setup at Chambers Bay in play at U.S. Open

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — It’s a typical, wacky, Father’s Day fourth round Sunday at the U.S. Open. From the start there’s been some weirdness out there, even hours before the leaders teed off at Chambers Bay.

Early this morning on the par-4 first hole, Chris Kirk took a 10, as it took him five attempts at his greenside recovery shot to get the ball safely onto the putting surface. A few hours later, short-game whiz Phil Mickelson pulled out a 64-degree wedge for his recovery shot at 18 from over the green to a short-sided pin and actually managed to slide right underneath the ball.
