Shifting focus from weather to the cut at the British Open

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — We are after the lunch hour Saturday here at the Old Course and we are still at the mercy of Mother Nature. She is in a foul mood, her winds steady at 25-30 and gusts ripping off the Firth of Forth at upwards of 40.

With fingers crossed that play resumes later this afternoon, perhaps 4-5 p.m., how is this for a possibility: Game 52 (Jonathan Moore, Scott Hend, and Ryan Fox) could conclude its second round in the Saturday twilight, roughly 24 hours after it had begun.

Curious stuff, for sure, but while there’s still hours to go before we can determine exactly who gets to stay for the final 36 holes, we can say with some degree of certainty that some lads can bid the Auld Grey Toon farewell for this year.
