SAN FRANCISCO — For nine holes Saturday morning, things had pretty much gone the way they had for Hunter Mahan’s first 41 holes of this WGC-Cadillac Match Play.
Not flawless, but pretty darn close.
With three birdies in eight holes, Mahan was 2 up over John Senden in the Round of 16 and he was still the only player in the 64-man field not to have trailed for even one hole.
“I was ready to play and I got off to a great start,” Mahan said.
Unfortunately, the finish took on a different complexion, an inexplicable change of fortune that spelled defeat for Mahan.
