BLUFFTON, S.C. – Few, if any, of Kenny Ebalo’s competitors at the Players Amateur have been interested in his daytime gig. Ebalo, 32, is the mid-am toting his own bag alongside the top collegians at this invitation-only amateur gem in the Lowcountry, and he’s keeping up.
Ebalo, of Las Vegas, led for much of the first round before a double bogey at the 13th derailed his day and knocked him back to 2-under 69, tied for eighth. He returned even-par 71 on Friday at Berkeley Hall’s North Course to remain in the mix. He lamented the heavy heat blanketing the course this week – otherwise, he would have taken full advantage of the course’s extensive practice facilities to work on his game.
