SPRINGFIELD, N.J. — Hot? Scott Hend shrugged it off after signing for a 2-under 68 in Thursday’s first round of the 98th PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club.
Hend was barely sweating. After all, his home base in the United States is Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., “and it’s hotter in Florida right now,” said Hend.
And for further edification, Hend knows what it’s like to be in Malaysia or Brunei in the summer. Just this past June, the week of the U.S. Open, in fact, while many of his peers were trying to solve Oakmont CC, Hend was winning the Queen’s Cup in Thailand.
