Underrated. Understated. Undeniable.
Catriona Matthew, a 46-year-old mother of two who began her LPGA career in 1995, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award on Friday at the Scottish Golf Awards in her native Edinburgh. It’s a well-deserved honor for an oft-overlooked golfer whose consistently fine play spans decades.
Matthew, the former Ricoh Women’s British Open champion and an eight-time Solheim Cup player, is the first female winner of the Lifetime Award. Previous recipients include Paul Lawrie, Colin Montgomerie, Sam Torrance, Sandy Lyle and Bernard Gallacher.
The Scotsman rebranded its newspaper “The Scotswoman” for International Women’s Day on March 8 and put Matthew on the front page.
