ATLANTA – Ollie Schniederjans has played East Lake Golf Club dozens of times, one of the perks of being a member of the Georgia Tech golf team, but never under conditions like this.
Schniederjans received the call from tournament officials at the Tour Championship on Wednesday after Jim Furyk withdrew with an ailing wrist and left the season finale with 29 players.
Instead of playing by himself, Hideki Matsuyama, who was originally paired with Furyk, elected to play alongside a non-competing marker and officials had Schniederjans, who had participated in an off-site pro-am this week near East Lake, step in.
