Sam Horsfield has withdrawn from the Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup team just 13 days before the match against the United States at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club.
Horsfield has cited “personal reasons” for his withdrawal. First reserve Ewen Ferguson will take his place in the side. England’s Bradley Moore now becomes first reserve.
Eighteen-year-old Horsfield was the third-highest-ranked member of the GB&I team at 22nd in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Only fellow Englishman Ashley Chesters (7) and Cormac Sharvin (20) of Ireland have higher world rankings than Horsfield.
