Sam Horsfield cites visa concerns as reason for Walker Cup absence

As it turns out, Sam Horsfield had a good reason for pulling out of the recent Walker Cup.

Just 13 days before the biennial matches, Horsfield cited “personal reasons” in a news release issued by the R&A as to why he would not be playing for Great Britain & Ireland. GB&I defeated the U.S., 16 1/2 - 9 1/2, on Sept. 12-13 at Royal Lytham & St. Annes in England.

Horsfield, 18, a native of England, has lived in the U.S. since age 5.

However, the day before the Walker Cup began, Horsfield teed it up as a freshman for Florida in the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm in Rocky Face, Ga.
