Sahalee Players Championship suspended for 2016 to accommodate LPGA major

For the third time in a quarter-century, the Sahalee Players Championship will take a year off.

The Sahalee Players Championship Tournament Committee and Sahalee Country Club announced on Monday that the annual amateur tournament, usually played in July, will be postponed until 2017. The course will be hosting the KPMG Women's PGA Championship June 9-12, and the committee felt attempting to run two events within a month's time posed too harrowing a task.

“With the considerable amount of resources it takes for Sahalee Country Club to host a major LPGA championship, it is in the best interest of the Sahalee Players Championship to suspend play in 2016,” said SPC Tournament Chairman Mike Jonson in a release.
