SPRINGFIELD, N.J. – It’s an overused term, yes, but as the year’s fourth and final major began at Baltusrol, the saying “beware the injured golfer” had some real truth to it for two Ryder Cup hopefuls.
Brooks Koepka, a spot out of automatic Ryder Cup qualification for the U.S., entered the 98th PGA Championship recovering from torn ligaments in his right ankle. England’s Chris Wood, on the bubble for Team Europe, teed it up in New Jersey on the mend from a neck injury.
On Thursday, neither player looked to be hampered by their ailments.
