The highlight of Rory McIlroy’s Sunday at Trump National Doral was likely the five minutes he spent with owner and Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump on the driving range just before taking his three shot lead out for a spin on the famed Blue Monster. The day turned decidedly worse from there in the final round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship.
McIlroy, trying to win his 12th time on the PGA Tour, looked nothing like the player that deserved the trophy, as he struggled off the tee hitting only 6 of 14 fairways. Then when he found the green side bunkers due to his inconsistent driving, he converted only 2 of 5 sand save opportunities.
