PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – On Monday morning, as he does every week, Rory McIlroy checked the Official World Golf Rankings and discovered that Jason Day had bumped him to No. 3 in the world. With a smile creasing his face, McIlroy said he needed a cup of coffee to elevate his spirits after seeing that disspiriting news.
“Since I’ve lost the No. 1 ranking, I probably haven’t looked at it quite as much. Probably haven’t paid as much attention to it,” he said. “I’m not really competitive in much other things, but this I’m very competitive and want to try and get back there as fast as I can.
