CARMEL, Ind. — As honorary observers, the two men were close enough to get splattered by the muddy spinout that was Rickie Fowler’s opening round at the BMW Championship at Crooked Stick Golf Club last week. Fowler’s three-over-par 75, six strokes higher than the scores carded by his playing partners, gave Ted Azar and Mike Bova pause.
After walking 18 holes with Fowler, they were keen to have their photograph taken with him. But would he be in a mood to comply? The men need not have worried. Fowler approached them about posing for a picture and was apologetic.
