GULLANE, Scotland – What chance does Rickie Fowler have of joining the major club by winning the Open Championship at St. Andrews?
Every chance.
Fowler gave himself the perfect preparation to better his runner-up finish to Rory McIlroy last year at Royal Liverpool by winning the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, his first European Tour win. He becomes the fourth American winner after Phil Mickelson, Tom Lehman and Michael Allen.
The Players Championship winner surpassed his eighth place finish last year, making birdie at the last hole to beat Matt Kuchar and Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin by a shot.
