SAN DIEGO — His town, his tournament, his galleries — which pretty much explains why so much of the news out of the Farmers Insurance Open swirls around Phil Mickelson.
His December match against 17-year-old Aussie Ryan Ruffels generated news.
So did the political decision that pushed Mickelson out of the plans to redo the North Course at Torrey Pines.
Oh, and his new swing coach? Mickelson has not been shy to mention how good he feels working with Andrew Getson. Lefty went so far as to say that at times it’s like Getson is “holding my hand” to lead him back to prominence after a dismal 2014-15 season.
