Rich Berberian redeems himself late to win PGA Professional Championship

VERONA, N.Y. — Rich Berberian appeared to throw away his chance at victory, then stole it back with a dramatic 33-foot birdie putt at the last green to win the 49th PGA Professional Championship on Wednesday at Turning Stone Resort.

Berberian, a 28-year-old assistant professiional at Windham Country Club in Derry, N.H., rallied from a five-shot deficit to shoot a final-round 69. He posted a 72-hole total of 11-under-par 277, one stroke ahead of former PGA Tour player Omar Uresti and Mark Brown, 49, of Oyster Bay, N.Y.

Josh Speight of Locust Hill, Va., closed with a 7-under-par 65, the best score of the week, to pass 23 players and finish in a share of fourth with 2013 champion Rod Perry of Port Orange, Fla.
