Residents, former golf course owner wash hands of stinky standoff in California

The settlement hardly is chicken feed, but the act that led to it was pure chickens---.

Michael Schlesinger, the owner of the defunct Escondido (Calif.) Country Club, has agreed to pay $100,000 in civil penalties after spreading 5 tons of raw chicken manure on his golf course last year, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Residents complained that the act was done out of spite after many had opposed Schlesinger’s development plans. The owner, for his part, said it was a “soil enhancer” that was applied for landscaping purposes.

Schlesinger has acknowledged no wrongdoing in agreeing to pay the fine to San Diego County.
