Report: USGA eyes The Country Club for '22 U.S. Open

The USGA appears on the verge of taking the U.S. Open to New England for the first time in more than a quarter century.

According to a Boston Globe report, the organization has accepted an invitation from The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., to stage its most prestigious event in 2022. The Brookline Board of Selectmen voted Tuesday to execute a letter of intent, with USGA officials reportedly participating in the discussion.

The Country Club has hosted the U.S. Open three times, most recently in 1988 when Curtis Strange beat Nick Faldo in a playoff.
