Report: McIlroy-Fowler primetime match called off

A primetime, 18-hole match that would have pitted Rory McIlroy against Rickie Fowler this summer has reportedly been cancelled.

The Associated Press first broke news of the potential match, which was slated for Detroit Golf Club on June 7, shortly before the U.S. Open in nearby Pittsburgh. The match was to be shown live on both Golf Channel and CBS, and was to include a "celebrity component."

Later reports indicated that that component would include stars Justin Timberlake and Mark Wahlberg joining McIlroy and Fowler as part of a team match.
