Cheng Jin used a tournament-record, 8-under 62 Thursday to grab the early lead at the Asia-Pacific Amateur.
Jin, a 17-year-old from China and the No. 33 amateur in the world, led by two shots when first-round play was suspended because of inclement weather with 27 of the 120 players still on the course.
With an invitation to the Masters available to the winner of this event, Jin started his opening round strong. He made an eagle and two birdies on his first nine holes after starting his round on No. 10 at Clearwater Golf and Country Club.
