Recap: Amateur Dunne grabs share of British Open lead; Spieth a shot back

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – There is an indelible image of a pristine day at Pebble Beach, the cloudless sky and pulsating sunshine providing as perfect of an environment for golf as could be imagined.

Yet there was Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara sitting on a bench at the eighth tee, their amateur partners — Jerry Chang and Ken Griffey Jr. — right there with them. The hole was wide open, but they were told not to hit. Why? Because fog had enveloped Spyglass Hill GC, play had to be halted there, and taking the what’s-fair-is-fair attitude to the max, officials deemed that with golf halted at one of the three venues, it had to be stopped at the other two.
