ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – The Old Course at St. Andrews never will become obsolete despite the advances of modern technology, R&A chief executive Peter Dawson said on the eve of the 144th British Open.
The Old Course has undergone several significant changes recently, with many observers wondering whether the once-distinguished old lady somehow had lost all of her molars and been given a set of inefficient false teeth.
Not so, said Dawson, who retires as the R&A’s leader after this championship.
“I think the course out there has stood the test of time,” Dawson said. “The players love playing it.
