AUSTIN, Texas – Spain’s Rafa Cabrera-Bello likely earned a trip to the Masters after South Korea’s Byeong-Hun An conceded victory, citing a neck injury after 11 holes in the Round of 16 at the WGC-Dell Match Play on Saturday morning.
The victory by Cabrera-Bello, his third this week, not only puts him into the Round of 8 in a match against Ryan Moore, a 4-and-3 winner over rookie Patton Kizzire, but almost assuredly gets him an invitation to his first Masters.
“Obviously disappointed,” Cabrera-Bello said of progressing at Austin Country Club because of his opponent’s injury. “No one wants to win with the other guy withdrawing.
