Despite reports that Trump Turnberry has been removed from the Open Championship rota, the R&A reiterated Monday that the famed links was never under consideration for an upcoming Open in the next few years.
Golf Channel insider Tim Rosaforte, citing sources at the R&A, reported that Turnberry wasn’t in the mix for the 2020 or ’21 Open, even before presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s anti-Muslim remarks.
Turnberry last hosted a men’s Open in 2009. The Independent reported Sunday that the course has been removed from the Open rota, and the Telegraph added that the European Tour is ready to cut ties with Trump, saying that plans for Trump International Links to host the 2017 Scottish Open “have been ripped up.
