"Big Three" plays first round at WGC-Cadillac Championship together to mixed results

The big three teed it up together at the WGC-Cadillac Championship with mixed results. Jordan Spieth got the best of the trio that included Jason Day and Rory McIlroy, but all were far behind 7-under leaders Scott Piercy and Australian Marcus Fraser in Thursday’s first round at Trump National Doral.

Spieth, who missed the cut two weeks ago in Los Angeles, came to Florida focused to wash away the memories of his first missed cut on the PGA Tour since an unlikely stretch of consecutive missed cuts at The Barclays and Deutsche Bank Championship last September.

Spieth, 22, started with three birdies in his first 10 holes to move to 3-under, but could not keep the run going with two bogeys and two birdies over the last eight holes, including a bogey on the last, the par 3, ninth hole to finish at 3-under.
