SAN DIEGO – Diana Murphy was sworn in as president of the U.S. Golf Association during its annual meeting today at the Hotel del Coronado. She is the second female to hold that post in the association’s 121-year history, following Judy Bell, who filled the role in 1996 and 1997. In January, Murphy, 59, invited Golfweek to her home on St. Simons Island, Ga., for a wide-ranging interview. Walk into the foyer of Diana Murphy’s elegant but understated marshfront home in this picturesque corner of southern Georgia – just look for the sign out front that says Dianaville – and eyes immediately focus on a colorful pair of murals painted by the artist Steve Penley.
