The U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship is set to debut this weekend, bringing 256 golfers from age 16 to 59 to The Olympic Club in San Francisco.
The event brings a team element to a typically individual sport, with players pairing up to compete in a four-ball format for a USGA Championship – golfers play their own ball, but take the better score each hole to create an 18-hole score for the team. After 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying, the field will be cut down to 32 teams, leading to five rounds of match play to determine the champions.
