Another week, another young South African winner on the European Tour. Add Haydn Porteous’s name next to Brandon Stone’s on the list of South Africans to watch out for in the future.
The 21-year-old earned his first European Tour win Sunday with a two-shot victory over Zander Lombard in the Joburg Open. Rounds of 66, 66, 68 and 69 gave the Johannesburg native an 18-under 269 total. He also received a spot into this year’s British Open at Royal Troon. (The Joburg Open was part of the Open Qualifying Series, where the top three finishers this week who weren't already exempt, provided they place in the top 10 on the leaderboard, earned spots in the Open.
