Playing near home, Paula Creamer confident she can end slump at U.S. Women’s Open

SAN MARTIN, Calif. – Paula Creamer grew up in Pleasanton, Calif., a 50-minute drive along the freeway from CordeValle, site of the 71st U.S. Women’s Open. How may tickets did Creamer request for family and friends this week?

“I’m embarrassed to tell you,” she said, walking off the 18th green on Wednesday.

For the first 10 years of Creamer’s life, her only interest in golf came when her father Paul let her drive the golf cart on quiet evenings at Castlewood rdeuntry Club while their golden retriever chased behind.

The Creamers lived on the first hole, within walking distance of the driving range.
