SAN MARTIN, Calif. – Uniquely CordeValle. That’s what players are saying early at the 71st U.S. Women’s Open. The Robert Trent Jones Jr. design doesn’t feel like a normal USGA test. Not yet, anyway.
Most are cautious, however, in their assessment. The scenic course is playing soft now, but the veterans know that won’t last.
“I think it’s exactly where they want it,” said 2007 U.S. Women’s Open champ Cristie Kerr.
Championship director Ben Kimball said the course will play less than 6,700 yards this week. They intend it to be a “comprehensive test of golf.
