Players bound for Rio unlikely to participate in Olympics test event

After a 112-year absence, golf’s return to the Olympics is not far away now, but the International Olympic Committee is still looking for the International Golf Federation to dot the I’s and cross the T’s.

The last bridge to cross is a test event at the Rio 2016 Olympics Golf Venue, which is now scheduled for March 8, the same week at the Valspar Championship in Tampa on the PGA Tour, the True Thailand Classic on the European Tour with the LPGA off that week.

The purpose of the event is to determine logistically what issues having 15,000 spectators, players and officials may need to be addressed before the Olympics.
