DORAL, Fla. — On a benign day, the Blue Monster at Trump National Doral was compassionate to the field in the first round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship with Scott Piercy and Australian Marcus Fraser each shooting 6-under-par 66 and on top of the leaderboard after Thursday’s first round.
Twenty-seven players recorded red numbers on Thursday, with Piercy and Fraser logging 15 birdies and only two bogeys on top of a crowded leaderboard that has five players within two-shots of the leaders including Phil Mickelson, the oldest player in the field at 45, at 5-under and just one shot back.
