SCOTTDALE, Ariz. – Danny Lee, leader of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, says he tries to breathe a lot to deal with the huge crowds at TPC Scottsdale. Every little bit helps, he said, when you have 100,000 fans on the golf course.
Um, wait a minute, Danny. He quickly was corrected on that number. On Saturday, on a sunny and perfect Chamber of Commerce day in Scottsdale, the tournament announced that there were twice that many people in attendance, a record crowd of 201,003. It was a single-day record on the PGA Tour, eclipsing the crowd of 189,722 who attended the third round at TPC Scottsdale in 2014.
